About Steep Thoughts

Most of you pop-culture enthusiasts will recall Jack Handey's "Deep Thoughts" - a regular feature on Saturday Night Live in the early 90s, which led to a moderately successful line of DT books. You internet enthusiasts also know that many web clowns out there try to subtly rip off Mr. Handey, with varying degrees of success.

I would never try to subtly rip off a comic genius in that manner. So I do it blatantly, changing two letters and keeping them exactly the same in tone. There will be a new one added to the site weekly, all complete Uncle Scrooge originals (unless a reader emails me a really good one - then you can be famous, too!) Unlike the other cheap imitations, I believe mine are second only to Handey's...and I used to recite them at parties, mingled together. Four out of five times, people couldn't tell which were mine and which were his.

Now that's a deep compliment.
